On the move at lively session of free activities

An afternoon of free taster activities for the over 50s attracted people of all different fitness levels to Wodson Park last week.

The Come and Try day, part of the Forever Active East Herts scheme, was an ideal opportunity for people who hadn't been active in a while to try some gentle movement, from tai chi and Pilates to seated exercise and gentle Zumba.

Also on the programme were walking football, Nordic walking, yoga, archery, square dancing and pickleball - a less demanding version of tennis with a softer ball and a lower net - all taught by friendly coaches.

One participant wrote afterwards on her feedback form: "An enjoyable afternoon trying different things and meeting new people." Another said; "Great opportunity to try new activities. Friendly atmosphere and good fun."

Eric Buckmaster, Executive member for health and wellbeing, said: "The Come and Try was the perfect opportunity to have a go at something new in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere with no prior knowledge or level of fitness needed.

"Forever Active East Herts is attracting hundreds of people aged 50 plus across East Herts to get up off the sofa and take the first step to better health and all the benefits that brings."
