Time to go up market

East Herts Council has been reviewing the way it delivers the markets service. From 1 February the allocation of market stalls at Hertford and Ware markets will be administered under 'street trading' legislation.

Traders will be in the same location and the markets will have the same look and feel as the current market service. However it will be cheaper to trade and we are encouraging more traders to come on board and will be promoting these opportunities as part of a relaunch of the service.

All traders wishing to work in Hertford retail market, Hertford farmers' market or Ware market must obtain a monthly or annual 'Street Trading Consent'. Annual consents can also be paid in instalments.

The key changes are:

·         Casual traders must arrange to book their stall in advance.

·         Applications must be submitted at least 28 days before intending to trade.

·         The minimum period to trade is one month at time.

·         Becoming a regular trader is the most cost effective option.

New traders are invited to trade on Tuesdays in Ware and Saturdays in Hertford. Please contact markets@eastherts.gov.uk to discuss your requirements.
