The Crossings Infrastructure Applications

Two infrastructure applications approved by East Herts and Harlow Councils.

In 2022 East Herts and Harlow Councils approved two applications for the delivery of transport infrastructure to unlock the delivery of the Gilston Area development and to enable the creation of a sustainable transport network.

The Central Stort Crossing proposal comprises the construction of a new bridge alongside the existing Fifth Avenue Crossing that links the A414 across the River Stort into Harlow.

The new bridge will provide a northbound carriageway, with one lane being a dedicated bus lane.  This will enable the existing bridge to be converted into a southbound carriageway, with one lane being dedicated to buses.

Technical work relating to detailed engineering designs and legal agreements is currently underway with Hertfordshire and Essex County Council’s Highways Teams.

Work is also underway in relation to ensuring that details are provided in relation to the conditions placed on the applications when they were approved.

  • Conditions:  Places for People (PfP) have submitted applications to discharge conditions related to the Central Stort Crossing. More information to follow.

The Eastern Stort Crossing comprises the realignment of the existing Eastwick Road to provide a new junction into Village 1 and Terlings Park and a new junction into Pye Corner.

The scheme also includes the construction of new bridges across Fiddlers’ Brook and the Stort Valley to join the Gilston Area to River Way in Harlow.

Technical work relating to detailed engineering designs and legal agreements is currently underway with Hertfordshire County Council’s Highways Team where the scheme overlaps with the Central Stort Crossing.
