Post Wood is an ancient semi-natural woodland (ASNW) located on the south-eastern outskirts of Ware, and is adjoined by Presdales recreation ground. There is ample car parking for both sites accessed from Walnut Tree Walk, SG12 9PD; further access is available from Great Amwell along the Bridleway to the south-east of the site, and from the north via Post Wood Road for pedestrians.
Post Wood & Presdales recreation ground
Post Wood has been in existence since before the turn of the 17th Century, displaying mature oak and hornbeam trees, and spring wildflowers, as remnants of its ancient heritage. The woodland provides a place for wildlife to thrive and for people to relax in seclusion from the hustle and bustle of modern life. Wildlife conservation is prioritised in the management of the site, to ensure that the woodland is protected and improving in condition for future generations to experience.
Presdales recreation ground is a popular site which is adjoined to Post Wood, providing a large open space for a range of recreational activities. It is surrounded by woodland habitats including hedgerows and mature trees, providing attractive views in all directions. Owing to its popularity, particularly during the daytime and for weekend football matches, the car park receives high usage.
