Climate Change Strategy 2022-2026
In July 2023, Members unanimously agreed a climate emergency, which both amplifies and accelerates efforts to tackle climate change in terms of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, restoring natural environments and planning for the local impacts of climate change.
At the same time, we recognise that it is vital that we build on our track record of engagement with our communities and partners to accelerate the work we have undertaken to date to reduce emissions and adapt to a changing climate.
There are steps that we can all take to make more sustainable choices. This strategy lays out how the council, residents, business and other partners can all pull together to help each other make significant and long lasting improvements to the sustainability of our environment.

Biodiversity Duty Statement
In line with the strengthened biodiversity duty introduced by the Environment Act 2021, the council has completed a review of the actions it can take to conserve and enhance biodiversity. A list of policies and objectives arising from this review will be published in due course following formal agreement. The council will periodically publish a report detailing progress on the actions identified. The first report is scheduled for publication in 2026.
