2024 Parking Strategy

Throughout September, East Herts District Council will conduct in-person and online engagement sessions to gauge public opinion on the price and structure of parking in the district. Following an engagement period, a new parking strategy will be outlined in autumn 2024, with the strategy expected to be implemented in 2025.

The intention is that these sessions will inform a strategy which will aim to:

  • Reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality
  • Encourage active travel, as well as the use of public transport
  • Optimise the use of parking spaces and car parks
  • Generate income to support sustainable initiatives and contribute to the council’s medium-term financial plan
  • Facilitate sustainable transport with Hertfordshire County Council
  • Address any anomalies in the current parking structure to ensure more fairness across the district

Some of the changes being considered for the new parking strategy include:

  • The introduction of a workplace levy on parking
  • A review of existing parking zones, including location and hours of operation
  • Making parking charges more consistent across East Herts
  • Making paying for parking easier and more inclusive

Residents and businesses are encouraged to have their say on proposed changes and to suggest their own improvements to parking in the district, in order to help the council improve the environment for all, and to help make our streets better and safer for all means of transport.
