East Herts Council welcomed Ukrainian refugee, Yaroslav Barkov, to its Hertford head-quarters this week to raise the Ukrainian flag and mark the one year anniversary of the Russian invasion.
The council’s Development Management Committee (DMC) will meet on Tuesday, 28 February, to consider Places for People’s application for up to 8,500 new homes at Harlow and Gilston Garden Town.
Investment by East Herts Council in the refurbishment and expansion of Hartham Leisure Centre in Hertford has achieved its next milestone, with the new roof completed this month.
Applications are now open for a new form of free ID that can be used at elections. Ahead of a new voter ID requirement, the UK Government has opened the online portal for the ID, known as the Voter Authority Certificate, for voters that do not already have an accepted form of photo ID.

Following agreement by Executive on 25 October 2022, East Herts Council will begin the phasing of 180L refuse bins when existing general waste bins need to be replaced because they are lost or damaged. This will also begin the transition to standard bin sizes and colours for East and North Herts which will save money and improve stock levels for replacements.
