Investment by East Herts Council in the refurbishment and expansion of Hartham Leisure Centre in Hertford has achieved its next milestone, with the new roof completed this month.

As part of the council’s £9m redevelopment, building contractor, Cadman, has demolished the front of the building to make way for a new two-storey extension, including a gym, studios, soft play facilities and a cafe area.

Spanning 1000m2, the new roof has 27,130 fixings holding it in place, enabling the interior fit-out to start so that the third phase of work can complete by spring/summer 2023.

Eric Buckmaster, Executive Member for Wellbeing at East Herts Council said, “I was astounded by how well the work is taking shape during my visit to Hartham Leisure Centre. The team have worked tirelessly to deliver a great range of health and wellbeing facilities which will appeal to all ages. The project is running on schedule, and we cannot wait to see the finished product which will add great value to our county town.”

Stuart Cadman, Managing Director at Cadman Construction said, “This project builds on our expertise in delivering mixed-leisure buildings, and will provide extra facilities needed for the area. The completion of the roof marks one of the major milestones of the project and allows us to move forward with the interior. It’s been great to be involved in this distinctive development, a notable addition to our portfolio of leisure schemes. We would like to thank everyone who has been involved in the project so far and wish the team continued success as the development continues through to completion.”
Residents and visitors can also look forward to the outside of the leisure centre taking shape towards the spring of 2023, with the cladding and landscaping works scheduled for the coming months.

The final phase of the project will see the upstairs of the existing leisure centre building converted into a changing facility and spin studio and is expected to complete by Autumn 2023.
