The official opening of Castle Park in Bishop’s Stortford took place on Sunday, 1 September with newly elected local MP, Josh Dean, cutting the green ribbon.
Two of the 70 graves unearthed last year during the redevelopment of Castle Park in Bishop’s Stortford, are now known to date back to the 10th century, firmly placing them in the Anglo-Saxon period. This means they predate Waytemore Castle by over 100 years.
Bishop’s Stortford’s new park café – The Terrace Park Café & Kitchen – which opened its doors in June is quickly becoming a go-to destination for visitors to Castle Park.
East Herts Council has retained Green Flag status for Southern Country Park in Bishop’s Stortford and The Ridgeway in Hertford. In addition, the council is delighted to announce that Castle Park in Bishop’s Stortford has won the coveted award for the first time this year.

Saturday 30 September sees the return of Castle Park’s Heritage Day, a free event for all the family to discover more about the fascinating history of the park. The event will run from 12 – 5pm.
Charles and Sofia Erleigh, the couple behind Smoke BBQ Kitchen in Hockerill Street, Bishop’s Stortford, have been chosen to operate the new café in Castle Park following a competitive tender process.
