A free official opening event will take place in Castle Park in Bishop’s Stortford on Sunday, 1 September from 12-5pm.

This will be a celebration of the park’s recent transformation, providing an opportunity for East Herts residents to enjoy the new facilities on offer and find out about the heritage and conservation of this beautiful town centre park.

Activities will include:
•    a Norman battle re-enactment
•    the chance to visit a living medieval encampment
•    archery and axe throwing
•    falconry displays
•    a skate jam at the new skate park with pro-skater displays and teaching sessions

In addition, conservation and wildlife groups, including Friends of Castle Park, will showcase the work they been doing to improve the natural habitat of the River Stort, from flowers to bats, woodlands and wildlife.

There will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the newly installed bridge over the River Stort at 1pm.

Councillor Sarah Hopewell, East Herts Executive Member for Wellbeing said: “It’s wonderful to see this major redevelopment come to fruition. It’s been a story of long-standing co-operation between East Herts Council and our partner organisations.  Located so close to the town centre, Castle Park is a fantastic amenity for the residents of Bishop’s Stortford and the surrounding area to enjoy throughout the year.”

Food, drink and ice cream will be available as well as hot and cold food, cakes and pastries from Castle Park’s new park cafe: The Terrace Park Cafe & Grill.
