Old River Lane Main Site Development
We are investing £45m in Bishop’s Stortford town centre, to revitalise Old River Lane and create a new destination for arts, culture, shopping and leisure.
The vision for Old River Lane is to deliver a high quality, mixed-use scheme of exceptional design that contributes to the vibrancy of Bishop's Stortford and complements the uniqueness of our historic market town.
In line with progress on the Northgate End development, the council has appointed Cityheart Ltd as the developer for the main Old River Lane site.
We will continue to work with Hertfordshire County Council, Bishop's Stortford Town Council, South Mill Arts, Cityheart Ltd and local groups as we move to the next stage of the master plan development to ensure we get this right for everyone in Bishop's Stortford.
Key elements of the plans for the site will include:
- New arts and cultural centre
- Housing
- Retail/restaurant space
- A new public square, pedestrianised areas, and clear walkways through to Castle Park

A briefing was given to East Herts Councillors in June this year regarding the project, please see the details here.
