Cinderella - Yarnbombed
Ohhhh yes, they did! The Secret Society of Hertford Crafters has joined us in bringing Christmas joy to Hertford with a Cinderella themed yarnbomb – a woolly nod to BEAM’s panto production this year!

The Society have collaborated with Hertford Town Council to decorate Hertford’s town centre Christmas Tree.

The imagination of The Secret Society of Hertford members knows no bounds and the tree promises to fall no short of spectacular when it is revealed in all its glory on Friday.

To elaborate decorations that have been knitted include crocheted, sewed & upcycled pumpkins, mice, glass slippers, clocks, and invitations to the ball addressed to well-known children’s characters.

But they didn’t stop there - oh no, they didn’t!

They’ve also made Prince Charming’s whole castle complete with moat, drawbridge, towers, a kitchen, a DJ, a bar, dancers in flowing gowns and ties and tails! The story wouldn’t be complete without the cruel sisters, some scoundrels trying to sneak in without tickets (called Noel & Liam), soldiers for security, a fairy Godmother and of course - Prince Charming and Cinderella!

The complete castle will be installed on the Wednesday 20 November. The final launch, complete with lights will at 6pm on the Friday 22 November at the Hertford Christmas Gala!

Some specific ballroom scenes show:

  • a couple celebrating their 45thwedding anniversary
  • two break dancers and a DJ
  • a couple performing a daring lift
  • cruel sisters slathering on fake tan
  • a bar with French bar maid
  • a Victorian kitchen
  • two scoundrels trying to get into the ball without tickets
  • a marriage proposal!
  • a Fairy Godmother
  • Prince Charming and Cinderella!

Whilst the story of Cinderella was at the heart of the plans, recycling was a fundamental feature of the Christmas yarnbomb. The aim was to recycle and reuse as much as possible, using milk bottle tops, pieces of past installations, plastic bottles, sweet wrappers, plastic bags for underskirts, off cuts from sheds, old costume jewellery, yoghurt pots, old clothes, estate agent boards and even a lampshade!

The yarnbombers will also be holding a stall selling gorgeous, crafted items in Salisbury Square, Hertford during the Hertford Christmas Gala on Friday 22 November from 3pm till 8pm. Giving visitors the opportunity to find Christmas and Cinderella themed goodies, with many pumpkins, clocks, mice, little gifts and pocket money items, enabling the Society to raise more funds for the Hertfordshire Breast Unit Appeal.

After the Christmas Gala, if you’re full of festive cheer – head online and book tickets to see Cinderella and the Glass Slipper at BEAM, in the heart of the town this Christmas in our fantastic new venue. Tickets are available now, so book your seats, and remember to check who’s behind you!!
