East Herts Council is giving homeowners the chance to apply for a free home decarbonisation survey, worth £250, as well as access to up to £4,500 of match funding to help them improve the energy efficiency of their home.

Participating homeowners will receive a bespoke Home Energy Retrofit Options (HERO) plan which will give them independent, tailored advice on how to make their home more energy efficient. They will then be able to apply for match funding to help cover the installation costs of improvements:

  • up to £3,000 for the installation of solar panels
  • up to £1,500 for battery storage

Councillor Tim Hoskin, East Herts Executive Member for Sustainability, said: “A HERO plan will provide expert, independent advice on the potential for making someone’s home far more energy efficient. Added to this, as a first step towards helping residents make their homes greener and more sustainable, the council is offering to match the cost of installing solar panels up to £3,000 with another £1,500 available for battery storage. This is the latest way in which the council is helping local people reduce their energy bills and carbon footprints.”

A total of 50 surveys are on offer on a first come, first served basis. They will be conducted by qualified Retrofit Consultants who are endorsed or directly employed by the National Energy Foundation (NEF).

The match funding to support the installation of solar panels and battery storage will be provided through the government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF).

For further information or to apply, homeowners should visit https://www.eastherts.gov.uk/community-and-health/environmental-sustainability/home-energy-survey-and-funding or call 01908 699991.
