East Herts Council is excited to announce the installation of a new solar-powered, cashless duck food dispenser at Southern Country Park in Bishop’s Stortford. Offering visitors an eco-friendly and convenient way to feed the ducks healthy food to support their diet, whilst maintaining a waste-free environment. The machine has been provided and installed by The Feed Ducks Initiative Ltd, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Friends of Southern Country Park.

The new dispenser fully supports the council’s agendas. Being powered by solar energy, the new machine promotes sustainability and reduces its environmental footprint while ensuring consistent operation throughout the day. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own container to collect the duck food which they can then take home and use again, reducing waste to keep the park clean and beautiful for everyone to enjoy.

Visitors can easily make payments using card or contactless methods, as the machine is cashless and support local conservation while enjoying feeding the ducks. 10% of all proceeds generated by the dispenser will go directly to the Friends of Southern Country Park, helping support their activities. The remaining 90% will go to The Feed Ducks Initiative, who provide and service the machine.  You can learn more about their initiative and where to find other dispensers on their web site: https://www.feedducks.com/

Councillor Sarah Hopewell, Executive Member for Wellbeing at East Herts Council, said: "We are proud to launch this new, sustainable initiative at Southern Country Park. Not only does it provide a green way for visitors to enjoy feeding the ducks, but it also aligns
with our waste-free and environmentally conscious practices. We are thrilled to be able to give back to the local community through the Friends of Southern Country Park."

The solar-powered, cashless dispenser is strategically placed near the park's popular balancing pond and provides an easy, eco-friendly way for people to support the park’s wildlife.
