Every year, our Electoral Registration Officer has a legal duty to undertake an audit of all household voter registrations in East Herts and produce a new Register of Electors by 1 December. This process is known as the Annual Canvass.

After 5 years at the helm of East Herts Council, Richard Cassidy, Chief Executive Officer, has made the decision to leave the council as of 15th September 2024. Richard has had a successful career in local government spanning 40 years, working in senior positions in a range of Councils before joining East Herts in 2019.

Arts in East Herts, our exciting new arts showcase which is running through September and October across the district, kicked off last Sunday with an artists’ open studio in Bishop’s Stortford.

Help East Herts Council improve parking in the district.

We want to improve parking to deliver fairer services and create a healthier, greener environment for our communities. Throughout September, East Herts District Council will conduct in-person and online engagement sessions to gauge public opinion on proposed parking initiatives in the district. Following an engagement period, a new parking strategy will be outlined in late 2024, with the strategy expected to be implemented in 2025.

Dig at Castle Park, Bishop's Stortford
Two of the 70 graves unearthed last year during the redevelopment of Castle Park in Bishop’s Stortford, are now known to date back to the 10th century, firmly placing them in the Anglo-Saxon period. This means they predate Waytemore Castle by over 100 years.

Development Management Forum in session
East Herts Council has scheduled monthly meetings of the Development Management Forum (DMF), giving residents the opportunity to present their views (on complex or sensitive major planning applications for the development of 50 or more homes) to councillors, planning officers and the applicant early in the planning application process.
